LATEST PROJECT - PRODUCTION DESIGN FOR FEATURE FILM - BOOK TO SCREEN ADAPTION
This project involves adapting Xiran Jay Zhao’s novel Heavenly Tyrant into a screen format, bringing its rich sci-fi and political fantasy elements to life through a compelling visual narrative. A key focus is the reimagining of the Gao Palace—envisioned as a traditional Chinese palace nestled within the mountains, dramatically constructed amid the wreckage of a fallen, decommissioned Chrysalis - one that crashed during a battle in the mountains long ago. I loved the idea of the people of Huaxia repurposing its vast, mechanical remains, hand-building the settlement into and around the exposed structures. Giant robotic limbs jut from the landscape, now acting as supports for buildings, while the Dragon’s robotic mouth has been transformed into a dramatic landing pad for aircraft!
